Demand for parent-child therapy has increased in the last decade following the recognition of the importance and effectiveness of this therapeutic approach. There are at present several therapeutic methods requiring different specializations.
The Israeli Parent-Child Therapy Association has been established in response to therapists’ interest in parent-child therapy and their desire to engage in it professionally. The purpose of the Association is to constitute a professional organization which will conduct training of therapists interested in working in this kind of therapy and to establish the necessary conditions for recognition of therapists engaging in parent-child therapy.
The purpose of the Association
- The Association will be an umbrella body for therapists engaged in the field of parent-child therapy.
- The Association will constitute a center for professional dialogue by means of seminars, training, and discussion groups of specialists in this field.
- The Association will attend to enhancing the knowledge of therapists engaged in parent-child therapy by forming plans for supervision and training.
- The Association will establish the criteria defining who is regarded as therapist or supervisor with the necessary background and professional experience for engaging in parent-child therapy.
- The Association will promote the training of child therapists interested in specializing in these therapeutic fields.
- The Association will attend to promoting research in this field.
- The Association will attend to development of various models and to their adjustment for the requirements of publics having specific difficulties.
Recognizing therapists in the parent-child therapy approach
The Association will recognize therapists working in a therapeutic profession (psychologists, social workers, art therapists, psychiatrists) having a master’s degree who fulfill the requirements of training and supervision in the field of parent-child therapy as defined by the Association.
Recognizing therapists as supervisors in the parent-child therapy approach.
The Association will recognize supervisors who are recognized therapists and fulfill the requirements defined by the Association for recognition as supervisors in the field.
Training and supervision
- The Association will establish the framework for teaching parent-child therapy.
- The Association will determine the necessary subjects of training for therapists.
- The Association will promote learning, seminars and continuing education in the field.
- The Association will publish the names of its recognized therapists.

The association will be administered by the Mutav Society for Prevention and treatment (Therapy) of infants, named after Miriam Ben Aharon.
